My first attempt at nail art. TARDIS on the thumbnail; space on the other nails… and polish all over my cuticles. -__-;
Life is too short for matching nails on both hands. :P I also realized that my DSLR can do close-up pictures with my zoom lens, so expect higher quality pictures from now on, although I’m still practicing taking focused pictures with one hand, so please bear with me on that. Autumn-themed nails. Mystery shimmery brown nail base; Black Radiance Hot Steppa and Wet n Wild Fast-Dry Orange for glitter and pumpkin. Calvin Klein Splendid Color Emerald Green for the teeny bit of green on the stem.
The city at night. Freehand with my left hand—I’m right-handed, so please excuse the wobbliness and unevenness. :P The moon on the thumbnail is actually a stick-on rhinestone.
This is a week’s worth of wear with no touch-up except to line the bottoms of my nails and the very tips with a thin line of black, plus an extra layer of topcoat on my index nail.
I have decided that Sinful Colours’ “Hottie” (831) is THE most beautiful glitter polish ever. It’s tinted blue, so it won’t work as well on warm colors or pastels, but on blues and blacks, it’s perfect. The specks are thin and small and lend just the right touch. I’ve layered some over the jellyfish here. :)
Click on the image to zoom in! The transparent effect on the jellyfish is more impressive in real life (especially on the thumb); it didn’t photograph very well.
(And before anyone complains—the jelly on my thumb isn’t quite Aurelia aurita. I made a few modifications.)
Close-up of my jellyfish nails; I think this picture captures the colors and detail better than the tiny picture on the other post.
Bonus photo of my palette after I was done. All those shades of blue were layered over the top and the tentacles to give the jelly more of a transparent look; they were mostly a couple drops of blue mixed with clear polish.
The other day, when I was on Tumblr, I came across alicexz’s portrait of young!Amelia Pond… which led me to explore her blog and find the portrait of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) to the left. I was actually familiar with her previous graphics work as silverqe on Livejournal, and I was always a big fan of her design sense and her use of color.
As you could probably tell from my previous posts, my inventory of nail colors was mostly blues, blacks, and glitters, so I decided to buy a few more colors and try to mimic the vibrancy of this portrait in a nail design. It’s not quite as glorious as the portrait and it’s not a super intricate design like my others, but I tried. :P (Look, I can do nail designs that don’t have glitter!)
I think the pinkie turned out the best. :)
I started working on my cutie mark nails before I realized that I had a nail idea for my Halloween costume. I plan to be Amy with all the tally marks counting the Silence all over her body. Cheap, simple, fast, and easily recognizable :D
This is my first time attempting a French manicure. I’m not a huge fan of the style, but it works well for this idea. :)
